Preparation and Training of Participants

When the country to represent is assigned, the students begin their study and begin to prepare an official position paper for each topic to be discussed. In all cases, the students must defend the position of the country that they have been appointed to represent, regardless of the personal opinions that one may have.

The main objective is to always keep in mind that understanding between human beings is essential to achieve peace in the world, as well as the spiritual and material progress of all humanity.

Recommendations for the Preparation of Delegates

6. Develop an attitude of cooperation and teamwork. The delegates go to the Models to learn and for this they must work in a group, with their colleagues and with other delegations, showing signs of cooperation at all times.

7. Prepare the Position Document (mandatory). Delegations with representation on the Security Council are recommended to:

to. Prepare a portfolio containing newspaper clippings or printouts of news downloaded from the Internet

    b. Make a file with the main data about the conflict and its protagonists (one for each topic).

During this stage the delegates:

  • They become familiar with the objectives of the organization and functioning of the UN and its organs.

  • They research, study, debate and analyze social, political and environmental problems worldwide.

  • They are instructed in persuasion, public speaking and debate techniques.

  • They carry out an in-depth study of the country they must represent.

  • They prepare official position papers.

  • They democratically elect those who will act as representatives in the Model.

This manual is only a starting point for each of the delegations to carry out an efficient investigation work. At this stage, delegates should pay special attention to the topics that have been chosen by the Organizing Committee of the Model United Nations.

For this research, the use of various resources is recommended: Information Centers, Embassies, bibliography published by the United Nations, consultations with specialized professionals, consulting the web pages of the UN and other entities.

However, all Model delegates must study these issues, as well as seek to be fully aware of the world situation in all spheres that concern the United Nations. In particular, and with reference to the Security Council, they must be aware of the conflicts that currently endanger international peace and security. It is important that from this moment, and until the last day before the Model United Nations, the participants learn about the main issues that concern the International Community.

All delegates should have a minimum knowledge of the objectives and functioning of all the organs of the UN, and should emphasize their role. They must also maintain a skillful handling of local, regional and international information to enrich the debates and the various negotiations.
